You made it! It's the last Full Moon of the year + the Decade? Who else is surprised to see they've made it this far? Congrats, Goddess!
Falling in Gemini on December 11-12th, this Full Moon is a potent time to say goodbye to the stories of the past and to free yourself from any stresses, burdens, or anxieties that you no longer wish to carry. Say goodbye to all that weighs you down, and make resolutions for not only what you want to do for 2020 (and the next 10 years) but also how you want to FEEL.
While there is support from the Moon to do release work around this time, there is also a powerful vibration of healing too, which will guide us to retreat so we can feel recharged and restored - bring your energy in, only allow those into it that feel right, and hibernate like nature tells us it's Natural to do. This is the time to reconnect with your inner self!
As always, take from this ritual what feels right for your energy - maybe you do the whole thing, maybe you just make a wish on a white candle. Setting the intentions for the New Year is what's important.
Gemini Full Moon Ritual 2019
This ritual is best done from December 11-19, 2019 and will take 45-60 mins to complete - allow yourself that time, and do it when/where you will not be distracted or interrupted.
You will need:
- Smudging tool of choice or Grounding Spray
- Candle (preferably white)
- Bowl of water
- Paper and Pen
- Cup of herbal tea, hot chocolate or red wine (if you partake) for drinking during the ritual
- Optional - Full Moon Meditation Oil or Essential Oil of Choice
- 10 Minute Guided or Self Guided Meditation of Choice
1.) Have your ritual ingredients including your hot drink prepared and to the side. Anoint your candle with the meditation oil or an essential oil of your choice that will help remind you of the work you are about to do, and then light it. Then, start by smudging your aura and then your surroundings. As you smudge your aura, feel free to recite-
“Another year is about to pass, another 10 year cycle complete. I give honor and thanks to myself for all I know, all I have grown, and the many times I have chosen love over fear. I honor my journey, my emotions, and my path, but I now ask Mother Moon, the Universe, and angels of light and love to cleanse and release me of all that no longer serves. I am cleansed. I am healed. I am restored. I am cleansed. I am healed. I am restored. Thank you.”
As you cleanse your surroundings, feel free to recite-
“I cleanse the energy of this space to make room for lightness, joy, peace, and prosperity. May all those that walk through here feel protected; may my work today and all days be protected. May the angels of light and love bless this space with health, with healing, and with love. My space is cleansed. My space is free. Only love and light dwells here. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.”
2.) Begin by sitting or laying down in a comfortable position, taking a few drops of meditation oil or your essential oil of choice in your hands, rubbing them together and inhaling them deeply 3 times. Try to choose a space or position preferably with your hands or feet on the ground. Turn on your guided meditation - one that promotes new energy, or letting go, whatever you feel called to release or manifest this Moon. If possible, have your right hand rested at heart center, with your left on the ground. If you are not doing a guided meditation, instead take a few deep, cleansing breathes and allow your mind to tune out and shut down, only thinking of gratitude and joy.
3.) When your meditation is complete and you feel fully grounded, take your pen and paper and choose one of the following journal prompts to work with. Allow your intuition to guide you to the prompt that is best for you- this usually means that you go with your first instinct!
- Write a letter to someone you are holding resentment, anger, or frustration towards or an ex-partner or loved one who has crossed over. You are not physically going to send this letter to the person, so don’t censor yourself. Start your letter with Dear…., and then just get all your feelings, grief or angst out on paper.
- Write a letter to your past self. Pretend that you are writing a letter to who you were at the start of the year but with the knowledge you have today. Think of yourself as a wise spirit guide offering guidance for 2019. What messages or insights would you share with yourself? What advice would you offer? (Try to be kind!).
- Alternatively, write this letter to you 10 years ago - what have you learned? What are you ready to let go of? What do you forgive her for?
- Use the journal prompts- “I am ready to release…”, “I no longer want to carry…”, "I forgive....", "I move forward from....."
Write until all your thoughts, feelings, and words are out on paper. Aim for at least 20 minutes or more and challenge yourself to keep writing. The more you write, the greater chances you have of being able to dig deeper and have a breakthrough. Even if you get stuck, just keep writing gibberish until you get back into the flow. Feel free to add pictures, or symbols that represent what you are feeling and releasing
4.) Now with your writing in front of you, take a moment to read over it a few times. Try not to judge, but think about any points that stand out or any breakthroughs you may have felt while writing. Acknowledge any thoughts and feelings that come up, and ask yourself "Why does this make me feel this way?" and "What is that feeling teaching me?"
5.) When ready, take your writing and begin ripping it into long strips. As you rip, recite the following three times or feel free to say what you feel in the moment-
"As I start a new year, a new decade, I release the past, and all that no longer serves me. I am ready for all that the new year has to offer. I will no longer carry my past. Thank you, thank you, thank you"
6.) Now take your strips and burn them using the light of your candle. When they get too hot you can drop them in the bowl of water.
7.) After you have finished burning all the strips take 3-4 deep breaths. Perhaps stand up and shake out your body, just to get a little movement and energy flowing after all the release work.
8.) Now take your herbal tea or cocoa and hold it in your hands. Feel your energy after all that releasing being drawn back into you.
Holding the cup/mug in both hands, recite the following or feel free to say what you feel in the moment. After reciting, take a sip of your drink-
“A new decade, a new year is now here. I love myself for all I have been through. I forgive myself for all I have been through. I welcome in the new year and the blessings it will bring. May the work of this ritual help to release me of all that is heavy and all that no longer serves a place in my life moving forward. Bring to me Gratitude, Abundance, Joy, and Health in it's place (feel free to change those intentions for what you want to manifest).
As I sip, I allow this warm drink to heal and soothe me, to nourish me from the inside out. I am safe. I am protected. I am loved. I am healed. I am comforted. (Take a sip). I am safe. I am protected. I am loved. I am healed. I am comforted. (Take a sip). I am safe. I am protected. I am loved. I am healed. I am comforted. (Take a sip).”
9.) To close the ritual, place your hand over your heart and just thank yourself for taking the time to do this ritual, to look after yourself, and to honor yourself for the year gone by.
Snuff out the candle and discard the water and burnt papers. If you can, return them both to nature by watering a plant, or a tree outside.
You are welcome to reuse this candle again but I recommend smudging it before doing so.
